Note: I received a negative comment regarding the strength of this magnet on this item (May 2022) and was concerned. So I looked into how much weight this clasp would hold. As you can see from the photos, I found a metal bolt and used it to test the strength of the magnetic, then weighed it. The magnet easily held a bolt which weighed 94 gms. (see photo). This is more than sufficient to hold most chains or necklaces. However, if you are concerned, then I suggest you look at some of the other magnetic clasps sold at Frenelle which have stronger magnets
