Over many years a list has been created of the universally accepted stones which are appropriate to give as a wedding anniversary gift for each year of marriage.
The first year is a bit contentious. Some research shows gold jewellery is acceptable while others claim Mother of Pearl to be more appropriate. Perhaps a small pair of #goldearrings is a good choice for a first anniversary gift.
The gorgeous blood red of #garnet is the choice for year two. This is a member of the silicate family and archaeology shows this stone has been used as jewellery since the Bronze Age.
The Moonstone is the choice for year three. Colours of the moonstone range from white to pale blue. Those with spiritual beliefs attribute many powers to the moonstone including fertility and sensuality, along with healing.
Naturally occurring Blue Topaz is relatively rare, but is the gemstone of year four of marriage. The Blue topaz represents strength, wealth and protects the wearer from harm. It comes in three different shades of blue; Swiss Blue, London Blue and Sky Blue. Sky Blue is similar to aquamarine in colour. London blue is a darker blue and Swiss blue is a bright, electric, more vivid blue.
The gorgeous blush pink of Rose Quartz is the celebration stone for year five. This is the perfect gift for celebrating five years of marriage as it represents unconditional love.
Those who love purple/mauve colours will be pleased to see year six arrive and with it a gift of Amethyst. The ancient Greeks believed Amethyst could prevent intoxication and the word "amethyst" comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not drunken". Today is believed to help in purifying the mind and clearing it of negative thoughts.
Onyx is usually associated with a black stone which can be found in many regions all over the world. It is said to shield the mind and body from negative energy and help to prevent feelings of depression.
Tourmaline is the gift for year eight and is classified as a semi-precious stone. It comes in a variety of colours from green through to pink. It is often associated with health properties such as detoxification and improved circulation.
Lovers of blue are rewarded this anniversary with a gift of Lapis Lazuli. This stone has been prized since antiquity for its intense blue colour. It is ground to dust to form a pigment for painting and is still the most valuable pigment available - gold is second.
Diamonds! Finally after 10 years of marriage you can expect a new diamond ring! If your budget doesn't quite extend to diamonds then Swarovski crystals are a good choice.
